Ever wondered what other sceners are like? I did, and made a little research on this matter. I created a sheet and then selected 20 dudes carefully from the Amiga scene, from all over the world. I collected all the information for you. I have been very careful with this thing. If somebody thought he was funny by writing stupid things on the sheet, I can tell you that these topics were disqualified. But now, let me introduce you a thing called scene person:
An average scene person is 18.4 years old. Most likely it's a he because there were no girls interviewed. The percentage of girls is very small, somewhere near 1-2 percent, I guess. A scene person is quite keen on alcohol, since only 4 told me that they were 100% sober. Even 12 told me that they use alcohol a bit, and 4 of them are very near alcoholists (Definition!? /ToJ). This didn't surprise anyone I guess, I mainly go to parties to drink with fellas and so on. To be honest, I really thought that there are more than 4 heavy drinkers. Anyway, an average scene person has around 20 contacts. However, remember, in my interview there were people with 0 contacts, and people with over 100 contacts so this is not very accurate. The two sysops are among the dudes with no contacts. Only 5 swappers were accepted here. The other categories were quite wide: 4 musicians, 2 coders, 2 organizers, 3 graphicians, 1 ASCII artist and 2 independents. 3 persons told me that they fake stamps. And one of them had got caught for f9!)! after all! The reason for not faking is quite obvious too, the risk is too high. 2 were too lazy and one said that he didn't need to. 14 couldn't really specify why they didn't fake.
What does an average scene person think about scene productions? Well, it seems like the most important thing in a production is the code. However, 6 persons thinks that the general impression is the most important thing. A scene production is a mix of topics as music, code, design and graphics. 4 persons think that the design is the most important thing in a scene production, so if you want to climb on charts, use good coders and design your project well. Talking about scene products, let's see what the sceners think about diskmagazines. The amount of mags is raising so let's see what makes a diskmag THE diskmag. 10 persons think that the articles are the most important thing. No surprises here. 6 think that user-interface is important too. This includes multitasking, easy-to-use, speed and so on. 4 persons thought that news are the most important thing. I quess no one can't leave them out anymore. But does the readers really read all articles in a mag? No, they actually don't. Even 17 told me that they don't read all articles, only 3 does. Maybe we need many diskmags so that everyone gets something. 16 persons think that setting a price for adverts is stupid. Only 4 people thought that it's OK to set a price of 1 disk for 2 adverts but mainly all of them give a fuck in RAW for their money hungry advert prices :-) What about charts then? Well, it seems like there are 9 people who vote for most charts, if they only get a votesheet. Still, majority leaves the charts alone. I guess the main problem here is the fact that you must pay quite a lot of money to send the sheet.
